Apple Registers 6% Increase in US Smartphone Activation in Last Quarter

In a stiff competition between iOS and Android operating systems, iOS has come out as a winner as it has registered 6% increase in US smartphone activations in the last quarter.

Competition between iOS and Android is heating up in the United States, where two operating systems vie for consumers’ attention. In the last quarter, Apple has gained on Android in smartphone activations. As per the report released by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, LLC, “Apple iOS improved its share of activations relative to last quarter and to one year ago.”

However, Apple’s activation growth has declined if we compare the first two quarters of 2017 and 2018 respectively. The increase in iOS activation is remarkable in the last quarter of 2018; in June 2018 quarter, Android accounted for 63% of US activations and iOS accounted for 36%, which is 6% more than the first quarter of 2018.

Apple Clocks 6% Surge in US Smartphone Activations Last Quarter

CIRP research reports indicate that most of the smartphone activations in the second quarter of 2018 are dominated by two leading mobile operating systems: Android and iOS. The activations happen on two giant mobile brands Apple and Samsung.

This research clearly indicates that consumers have become more loyal to Apple’s iOS operating system, which is gaining share in smartphone activations. Industry analysts believe that Android and iOS will continue to split the market share with Android at about two-thirds of activations and iOS at one-third.

Considering the device adoption, Apple and Samsung each has 36% of US activations in the last quarter, and LG clocked 12%.

According to Mike Levin of CIRP, “Apple improved in part at Samsung’s expense, whose share of activations declined relative to both last quarter and last year.”

Apple is proving its mettle by improving its hardware and software skills. This was clear in a report published by State of Mobile Device Repair and Security. As per the report, Apple’s iPhones registered less failure rate than Samsung’s phones.

Apart from building robust iOS devices, Apple is equally concerned about the price tag attached to the phone. To this effect, Apple has roped in LG to manufacture LCD & OLED panels for its upcoming iPhones 2018.

To add aesthetic elements to its iPhones, Apple is expected to release its future iPhones in vivid shades.
