Music to Your Ears: Alexa to Play Apple Music on Echo Smart Speakers

Apple Music on Amazon's Echo devices? The two giant corporations never cease to surprise us. From December, owners of Echo devices will be able to stream Apple Music by using Music Skill API.

After deciding to bury the hatchet, Apple and Amazon have come to some friendly terms. Apart from some Apple products available on Amazon, the eCommerce giant has agreed to stream Apple Music on its Echo smart speakers.

Starting December 17, Apple Music will be available as an option on Echo smart speakers. This can be an early Christmas gift to all the Apple fans, who are using Amazon’s Echo devices to listen to music.

Amazon Echo Smart Speakers to Stream Apple Music from December

Speaking on this musical handshake, Dave Limp, senior vice president of Amazon Device, said, “Music is one of the most popular features on Alexa. We’re thrilled to bring Apple Music – one of the most popular music services in the U.S. – to Echo customers this holiday.”

Following a deal between Amazon and Apple, the former can now sell more Apple products through its sales channels. However, HomePod speakers will not be available on Amazon.

Amazon knows the limitations of its music service, especially when compared to the giants like Apple Music and Spotify. This deal will not affect the current Amazon Music Unlimited business as it is just a small part of a big show.

Notably, Apple Music has more than 50 million active users; even Spotify was cowed by this number earlier this May. For Apple, it is a good deal as Echo devices have been achieving new heights while HomePod is lagging in sales tally.

Dave kept mum over the question if HomePod to offer Amazon Music Unlimited support. However, users can employ a workaround to play music in the Amazon Music app and stream the audio to HomePod through AirPlay. Everyone is looking for a day when users don’t have to use such tricks.

Summing up…

Dave wraps up, “We are committed to offering great music providers to our customers, and since launching the Music Skill API to developers just last month, we’ve expanded the music selection on Alexa to include even more top-tier services. We’re thrilled to bring Apple Music – one of the most popular music services in the US – to Echo customers this holiday.”
