Politicians may conveniently forget promises they make during election campaigns, but multinational corporations like Apple make sincere efforts to fulfill their promises. According to Apple’s press release published in its newsroom, the tech giant announced significant expansion plans in Austin, where the company would build a new campus and invest $1 billion.
As per the press release, Apple also plans to invest $10 billion for new data centers in the next five years and aims to create 20,000 jobs in the United States.
Apple To Create 20K New Jobs in the US
Notably, Apple made a promise in January to invest $30 billion in the United States. In recent months, Trump government has exerted pressure on big companies with manufacturing facilities outside the US to pump more money into the home.
Following a warning from the US president Donald Trump to impose more tariffs on iPhones and other Apple products imported from China, the Cupertino-based company took this decision.
This new campus is spread across 133 acres at Austin, and it is just a mile away from Apple’s existing facilities. After Cupertino, Austin campus accommodates the most number of employees. The Austin campus boasts the capacity to house 20,000 employees; first, it will house 5000 new employees and will expand to 15,000.
Apple’s expansion plans also include sites in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City, California; moreover, the company will expand operations in Pittsburgh, New York and Boulder, Colorado over the next three years.
The press release says Apple added 6,000 jobs to US workforce this year, and it plans to recruit more than 1,000 employees each in Seattle, San Diego, and Culver City.
The workforce would include engineering, research, and development, finance and sales functions.
Apple has taken a commendable measure by investing heavily in the United States. This will give job opportunities to the local workforce. Apple now employs 90,000 people in all 50 states of the country. And the company is now on the run to create 20,000 jobs by 2023.
