According to the data released by Flickr, a reputed image and video hosting website, Apple has moved ahead of Nikon to occupy the coveted second spot in the camera rankings of 2014.

Apple Beats Nikon on Flickr in 2014Canon and Nikon have been dominating this category for years. But this year, Apple has successfully broken their juggernaut thanks largely to the remarkable appreciation that iPhone/iPad’s Camera app has got in recent times.

Based on the data, over 100 million users uploaded 10 billion photos on Flickr last year. Taking the total photos into account, Flicker has listed the top five most popular camera rankings of 2014. Much to the surprise of all, Apple has gone on to be the second. Canon topped the list, followed by Apple. Nikon was pushed to the third spot by the Cupertino-based company.

Canon (13.0%) Canon (13.4%)
Nikon (8.8%) Apple (9.6%)
Apple (7.7%) Nikon (9.3%)
Sony (3.5%) Samsung (5.6%)
Samsung (2.4%) Sony (4.2%)

Canon with 13.4 percent of the total photos posted last year on Flickr has deservedly been placed at the top. Apple with 9.4 percent has succeeded in edging past Nikon which got 9.3 percent. Samsung with 5.6% and Sony with 4.2 % respectively were placed at fourth and fifth spots.

Last year, Apple (7.7%) narrowly missed and was placed at third position behind Nikon 8.8% and Canon 13% respectively. Sony with 3.5% and Samsung with 2.4% were placed fourth and fifth. Apple is the only company in this list that doesn’t produce professional cameras, unlike these specialist companies. And to be judged as the second best among them is no mean accomplishment.
