Among many depressing statements, here comes something positive for Apple. According to data compiled by Above Avalon, AirPods have impressed users a lot, and the wireless headphones are one of the smash hits in years for the tech giant.
Above Avalon data shows AirPods are the second best-selling product from Apple within two years of its launch. Moreover, Google search results show that people’s interest in AirPods has grown 500% year-on-year as compared to December 2017.
AirPods Bring Back Apple’s Heydays: AirPods are the Second Best Selling Product
The Apple analysis website has compared AirPods search interest from December 2016 to December 2018. The figures are surprising as Google search rates have shot up a massive ten times over.
According to the website:
Comparing peak AirPods search interest over the three most recent holiday seasons, the juxtaposition is startling. The following are Google search interest for “AirPods” in the U.S. indexed to 100 (represents maximum search interest):
- 2016 holiday season: 10 (AirPods search interest was 10% the volume of peak search interest).
- 2017 holiday season: 20 (100% year-over-growth in search interest)
- 2018 holiday season: 100 (500% year-over-year growth in search interest)
The analytical data compares the search results to that of iPad trends after its release, while the numbers of social interest are incomparable. However, the iPad has emerged as victorious in terms of sales of other Apple products within 24 months of initial release.
Make no mistake, AirPods can never defeat the staggering sales figures of iPhone 6 (220 million) during its lifespan. Above Avalon has compared the sales data within two years of launching the entire product segment. This means the website has considered Apple Watch’s initial release in 2015 and iPhone’s debut in 2007.
Author Neil Cybart says,
The higher interest is reflective of stronger sales. According to my estimate, Apple is on track to sell approximately 40 million pairs of AirPods in 2019, representing close to 90% year-over-year growth. There are already at least 25 million people wearing AirPods.
This total will likely exceed 50 million people later this year. These are massive sales and adoption figures for a two-year-old product that has never received an update and rarely goes on sale for less than its $159 selling price.
Above charge represents AirPods scintillating performance in the nine quarters after its release; the headphones are defeated only by iPad in the successful category launch.
Notably, rumors of AirPods 2 launch have been making the rounds. Some trade analysts believe Apple is planning to introduce health features in its upcoming AirPods 2.
