Earlier in February, we quoted a report from DigiTimes as saying that new iPads and AirPods 2 to hit markets in the first half of 2019. Now, another report from Applesfera claims that AirPods will be released on March 29th.
To support its claim, Applesfera gives a screenshot of “logistics and product stock management software,” which reveals that original AirPods are nearing the end of their “life cycle” on March 28th.

According to Applesfera, the anonymous source is in Apple’s supply chain. As any Apple event nears, people began to spread rumors about its software and products. Earlier, a Greek website suggested Apple would launch AirPower, AirPods 2, and new iPads on March 29th.
In another rumor, Apple is planning to focus its March event on video and news subscription services. Media reports claimed that Apple’s March event would have little space for hardware announcement. This creates confusion on the AirPods 2 release on March 29th.
Industry insiders also ponder over a possibility that Applesfera’s report is confusing AirPods 2 for an upgraded version of the original AirPods with wireless charging.
Apple may have plans to release AirPower and AirPods with wireless charging via a press release on March 29th.
Notably, Onleaks tweeted earlier February that Apple has no plans to release AirPods 2 until this fall, but wireless charging case would be available soon.
Whatever reports, leaks, and rumors are, we have to treat them with some suspicion. Like every other product release, some popular and unpopular media have always released rumors and became the marketing agent for the company.
Rumors are part and parcel of Apple’s marketing strategy. Reality will come to fore when Apple releases its products during the event. Till then, we cannot pass any judgment with conviction.
