When MKBHD conducted a blind camera test on 16 different smartphones, the winner was Mate 20 PRO. However, the popular YouTuber had delivered his observations, which didn’t go with the popular notion. While voters elected Mate 20 PRO, MKBHD subtly noted that iPhone Xs is the real winner on the grounds of detailing of the image.
While experts do believer iPhones have better camera feature than other smartphones, Apple is not happy with this scenario. And for this reason, the company is planning to launch iPhones with a more powerful 3D camera next year. This indicates Apple’s strategy to enter into augmented reality.
Apple to Offer a Compelling Reason for People to Upgrade iPhones
For a typical iPhone user, a camera is the only feature she can appreciate with some conviction. Other technical features are too complicated for any user to admire. This is the reason why camera feature installed on Android smartphones has won hearts of consumers.
Since iPhone is Apple’s primary money-spinner, the company has to think about its camera enhancements. Moreover, the camera holds significant value in the life of consumers, who want to capture happy moments. The smartphone market is saturated, and companies can persuade their consumers to upgrade by offering a powerful camera.
Unlike earlier holiday seasons, the last one proved pathetic for Apple in terms of iPhone sales. As a quick damage-control action, Apple decided to slash the price. But to bring back the glory of iPhone 6 sales, Apple needs something concrete to convince their customers for an upgrade.
The slump in iPhone sales last year caused a decline in Apple’s stock, which resulted in a $300 billion decrease in the company’s market value since October. New iPhone models with more powerful cameras can invite customers to upgrade.
So what is special in future iPhones with a more powerful 3-D camera?
Unlike the current iPhone 3-D camera, which operates at distances of 25 to 50 centimeters, the future iPhones loaded with better 3-D camera system will scan the environment to create 3D reconstructions of the real world. This new technology will work up to about 15 feet from the device, Bloomberg quoted people close to the matter.
Bidding farewell to dot-projection technology, Apple embraces a laser scanner, according to the people, who shared this information on the condition of anonymity.
Among other features, the future iPhones may have enhanced photo-capture tools and more powerful chip. To test sensors for this new system, Apple is in conversation with Sony Corporation.
Is the improved 3D camera Apple’s move to woo consumers? Only time will tell. From the current scenario, Apple needs something that can shoot up its iPhone sales.
