2018 iPhone Likely to Have Dual SIM Support: Reports

According to a leading media agency, Apple is planning to include the dual-SIM feature in its 2018 iPhones. The agency has found code strings that mention "secondSimStatus," "secondSimTrayStatus," and "DualSimDevice" in iOS 12 beta 5.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that Apple is planning to launch its larger iPhone with dual SIM support. This new facility will help users enjoy different carrier plans especially when they are traveling abroad.

Bloomberg’s reports may turn out true as 9to5Mac has found a code that reveals “second SIM status” in Apple’s latest software update, i.e., iOS 12 beta 5.

Dual SIM Support in Future iPhone Likely

This report indicates that one of the upcoming iPhones will have two traditional SIM cards instead of a traditional SIM combined with embedded Apple SIM technology.

Some analysts believe that Apple is coming up with this revolutionary change to lure consumers from emerging territories or the people from the third-world countries, where dual-SIM smartphones are commonly used.

Notably, iPhone X failed to fulfill Apple’s sales expectations. In Brazil, Apple faced tough competition from its archrival Samsung.

9to5Mac has found code strings that mention “secondSimStatus,” “secondSimTrayStatus,” and “DualSimDevice.” These strings clearly indicate that a future iPhone will have a second SIM card tray.

But which iPhone will have dual-SIM support? Apple is planning to release three iPhones this year: a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, iPhone X Plus, and a sequel of iPhone X.

The last two iPhones belong to Apple’s premium range, and therefore, they are least expected to have dual SIM facility. Most probably, it is 6.1-inch LCD iPhone that will have a second SIM tray.

Users can easily juggle two numbers at the same time instead of carrying two different smartphones.

According to DeviceAtlas, users in Nigeria, Brazil, and Egypt preferred dual SIM devices in 2017. In stark contradiction, dual SIM usage in the developed countries like the USA, Canada, and Australia is more common.

Apple wants to regain its market share, which is lost to other phone makers especially after the launch of high-priced iPhone X. Recently, it was reported that people are still buying older iPhones, which include devices like iPhone 7, 7 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone 6s.

If this situation prevails, capturing new markets will be a tough nut for Apple. This strategy of giving dual SIM iPhones may work for Apple and the company may regain its lost glory.
