WhatsApp – world’s most popular cross-platform messaging app – has many cool features. It lets you share audio notes, videos, and photos, along with the usual text conversations embedded with rich emoticons.
Like most other apps, WhatsApp takes your privacy and preferences seriously and that’s one of the reasons why you can block contacts from messaging you on WhatsApp. Not exactly a good thing but then, there are people you do want to avoid.
Blocking a person on WhatsApp is easy, although it’s beneath a few layers deep.
How to Block a Contact in WhatsApp on iPhone:
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and tap on Settings from the bottom menu.
Step 2: Tap on Chat Settings
Step 3: Scroll a little down and you’ll see the option named Blocked. Tap this.
Step 4: To block a particular contact, tap on the ‘+’ sign on top-right.
Step 5: Now, choose the contact you want to block
Step 6: You can add more people to the blocked list if you want by repeating steps 4 and 5. Once you’re done, tap on Done at the bottom.
WhatsApp will update and finish the process.
By blocking a contact, you are effectively blocking the person from sending you any message via WhatsApp. Note that even after you’ve blocked, the person can see your ‘last seen at’ timestamp. This means although you’ve blocked any messages from the person, they can know when the last time you used WhatsApp was.
Also, any message they send doesn’t get the two-ticks that are typical of messages that are sent and delivered.
Now that you know how to block a person, let’s also find out how to unblock a contact, just in case:
How to Unblock a Contact in WhatsApp on iPhone
Step 1: Go to the Blocked list (Settings -> Chat Settings ->)
Step 2: Swipe on a contact. The “Delete” option appears
Step 3: Tap on Delete and the contact is removed from the Blocked list.
Step 4: Most Important: Tap on “Done” so the updates get saved in WhatsApp.
That’s it. Now that you’ve removed the contact from the Blocked list, you can receive and send messages to this contact.
