A new Cydia tweak on the block lets you access your iPhone camera from the notification center. Sounds strange but there’s a twist to the whole thing. That’s what makes it interesting and that’s why I’m here posting about the Cydia tweak, Kamera.
Kamera 1.0 is on ModMyi repo so you get it right from within Cydia without having to add any repo. It’s a tested tweak that works just perfectly. It’s simple, elegant and fits to the NC very neatly.
But what is Kamera? Why would I need it?
Suppose you want to open the camera app right from the notification center? How about being able to choose which camera to open? Front or back, it’s available right there and a single tap does it!
Look at the screenshot:
So that’s as simple as it can get. You open the notification center and tap on the camera you want to open. Pop opens the camera of your choice and you can start clicking.
Kamera 1.0 is compatible with all iPhones and iPods. The tweak can be downloaded from the ModMyi repo. It works perfectly on iOS 6.x although it can also work on older firmwares. The tweak, unfortunately, is not yet ready for the iPads.
- Device Compatibility: iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS/3G, iPod Touch 5th/4th gen
- iOS compatibility: iOS 6.x and older
- Search for Kamera in Cydia
- Install Kamera 1.0
By default, Kamera is disabled in the Notification Center. You’ll have to enable it from Settings:
Step 1: Go to Settings -> Notifications
Step 2: Tap on Edit and scroll down to ‘Not In Notification Center’ (you’ll find Kamera listed here)
Step 3: Now, drag Kamera to the ‘In Notification Center’ list
And you are done!
Swipe down the status bar to open the Notification Center. You should see the screen shown in the first pic.
Below is a quick video tutorial that walks you through the same process:
The one good thing about Kamera is the speed. It takes more than 5 seconds to open the front camera and sometimes, the camera lag doesn’t help. But with Kamera tweak, you can get it done in a couple of seconds max. That’s provided the shutter opens fast.
