Hackulo.us Alternative Repo to Get AppSync for iOS 6.x
Disclaimer: We don’t recommend Installous or any other Installous alternatives in any manner to Install .IPA files. Developers put a lot of effort to create apps and what’s a dollar or two to spend on buying these apps? The only reason we post on these alternatives is to help users try out costly apps before they decide to purchase it. Under no circumstances should this be misconstrued as supporting piracy or piracy-related apps.
It's been a big blow to users of Installous. As we move into the new year, the news of Hackulo.us shutting down the entire platform on which Installous was built and used came as a shock. But then, as they say, you've got to move on.
We have been covering a lot lately about alternative solutions of Installous, finding solace in things like i-Funbox, vShare and AppCake+. If you're looking for a viable alternative, we suggest you take a look at our posts on Installous alternatives.
One of the core modules that made Installous and plenty of other IPA downloaders work was the AppSync tweak. Earlier, when Installous was launched, Hackulo.us made sure you got the right AppSync for your iOS firmware on their repo. That repo is now gone and we reported that finding AppSync was a tough thing after the base repo is gone.
However, AppSync for iOS 6 is back up and running from several repos.
One of the easiest ways to get AppSync for iOS 6 is using the HYiP repo. Here's how to proceed:
- Open Cydia
- Tap on Manage -> Sources
- Now, tap on Edit and then on Add to add the source
- Type 'repo.hackyouriphone.org' into the text field
- Add the repo and let Cydia refresh/respring
- After this, search for Appsync for iOS 6 in Cydia
- This brings up the needed AppSync tweak! Download it!
Once you've downloaded AppSync, you're going to download IPA files and install them manually or just use software like iFunbox. We've covered a plenty of stuff on that so you can just check it out.
If you are still on older versions of iOS (5.x, 4.x), you can download the relevant AppSync version from the HackYouriPhone repo. Alternatively, if you're looking for the old AppSync repo, one of our Facebook fans was right on spot and got everything in place for you.
Roberto Perrotti, our Facebook fan who has graciously put the AppSync up on a repo so you can now get AppSync for 4.0+ and 5.0+. Read on for more details.
While AppCake lets you download and install IPA files directly, programs like vShare, which is one of the finest alternatives to Installous as far as I've seen, needs AppSync to work properly. That means you'll either need to have AppSync installed on your iPhone/iPad already or at least, get it from somewhere.
Getting it from a repo is the easiest way but after the Hackulo.us repo was shut down, it has been hard to find legitimate sources for AppSync. But that's where Roberto comes in.
His repo hosts two AppSync versions now. You'll mostly need the AppSync for iOS5.0+ version so you can grab that while it's there. Here's how:
Note: We've not yet been able to test the AppSync but we're kind of sure this will work.
Step 1: Open Cydia
Step 2: Tap on Manage from the bottom menu
Step 3: Tap on Sources
Step 4: Tap 'Edit' on top and then on 'Add'
Step 5: Type this URL into the field:
Step 6: After Cydia adds the repo, tap on the new repo and download AppSync
Step 7: Alternatively, you can also search for AppSync in Cydia after you've added the repo.
