So the iPhone 5 was introduced just September of 2012, giving many Apple fans the chance to own the latest iPhone in time for the holidays. But rumours that the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 are slated to be released early 2013 are already circulating. And we’re not talking about third or fourth quarter release date here. We’re talking about a shorter product cycle for Apple products, specifically a mere 6 months for the latest model to be released after the last one. Rumours or not, the cyberspace is already buzzing about it. People online are already debating whether Apple is doing the right thing by shortening its product cycle or not. And the consumers are not holding back in voicing out their concerns. After all, hearing about another upgrade when you’ve just fully set up your newest iPhone as a business phone can be discouraging.
While the die-hard Apple fans would probably just shrug the news off and actually find the shorter product cycle okay, most people would probably be not so thrilled with it. Imagine saving enough money for months just to get the iPhone 5 only to find out that the iPhone 5S is to be introduced to the market just 6 months away or the iPhone 6 a mere 9 months away. It’s kind of a bummer, don’t you think?
In this day and age, people prefer to get the newest and the latest not just because of bragging rights (okay, for some, it may just be the bragging rights), but also because of the elation of getting only the best. As consumers, people love to get their money’s worth so spending their savings on something truly up-to-date is indeed fulfilling. The knowledge of owning the newest or the latest out there can bring a feeling of pride and advantage. Now Apple is giving you that sense of entitlement for a mere 6 months. Isn’t that a bummer?
Because of this shortened product cycle, some people are actually already withholding their plans of purchasing the iPhone 5 and are waiting instead for the iPhone 5S which is believed to be released by June 2013. So if you’re one of the many who went out of their way and braved the long queues just to get your hands on the iPhone 5, well, too bad. Users are already expecting to enjoy a much better camera and battery life from the iPhone 5S, and not only that. People are also anticipating fresh new features inside. If you’ve just gotten yourself an iPhone 5, hearing these clamours about the iPhone 5S June release may understandably be annoying and frustrating. You’re not the only one feeling it.
